Trump: ‘Animals’ Firebombed NC GOP Headquarters ‘Because We Are Winning’

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump reacted to the brutal firebombing of a GOP office in North Carolina on Sunday.

The Hill reports:

The party responded to Trump in a tweet, pledging not to be silenced or repressed.

A bottle of flammable liquid was thrown into a building housing the Orange County GOP headquarters in Hillsborough, N.C., in what one state GOP official called an act of “political terrorism,” The Charlotte Observer reported.

Local police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating but had not released any information about suspects at the time of Trump’s tweet.

And though Trump claimed he’s winning, the RealClearPolitics average of polls from the state show Clinton ahead by 3 points.

Authorities said the vandals had written: “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else” on the side of a nearby building.

Clinton also tweeted about the attack on Sunday afternoon, which the state GOP responded to with thanks.

“The office itself is a total loss,” Dallas Woodhouse, head of the state Republican Party, told the Observer. “The only thing important to us is that nobody was killed, and they very well could have been.”

“The firebombing of a local political headquarters in Orange County is clearly an attack on our democracy,” Gov. Pat McCrory (R) said in a statement. “Violence has no place in our society – but especially in our elections. … I will use every resource as governor to assist local authorities in this investigation.”

Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens said: “This highly disturbing act goes far beyond vandalizing property; it willfully threatens our community’s safety … and its hateful message undermines decency, respect and integrity in civic participation.”

The county is overwhelmingly Democratic, with Democrats and independents outnumbering Republicans 5-to-1, the Observer reported.
