Sanders Worries About Trump Denying Climate Change
For Bernie Sanders, it is a top priority that the US President believes in climate change. Donald Trump does not.
The Hill reports:
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is “astounded” the U.S. will have a president who doesn’t believe in climate change.
“What astounds me, and I hope this changes very quickly, is we now have a president-elect who actually does not believe that climate change is real,” Sanders said of president-elect Donald Trump on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday.
“I worry very much about what this means.”
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton railed on Trump during the presidential campaign for once saying that climate change was created by the Chinese to make U.S. manufacturing noncompetitive, though he later said the remark was a joke.
And multiple reports have indicated that Trump is looking for ways to withdraw the U.S. from a global agreement to limit carbon emissions in an effort to slow climate change.
Sanders said Sunday that Trump needs to be confronted about the realities of the issue.
“I worry very much about what this means for our kids and our grandchildren and the future of this planet,” Sanders said.
“Millions of people are going to have to tell him, ‘Mr. Trump: You are dead wrong,’ and we are going to have to transform our energy system.”
