Amal Clooney on Trump: ‘We Have to Hope for the Best’
Amal Clooney is giving Donald Trump a chance and will “hope for the best” over the next 4-8 years.
The Hill reports:
She and her husband hosted one of the biggest-ticket fundraisers for former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign, and now Amal Clooney says the country must “hope for the best” when it comes to Donald Trump.
“The president-elect has said that fighting [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria] is actually a priority,” the high-profile attorney and wife of George Clooney said at a Texas conference this week, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“So it may be that there can be progress and obviously everyone has to respect the outcome of the democratic process here, and we have to hope for the best,” Amal Clooney said.
An April dinner for Clinton hosted by the Clooneys in their Los Angeles home raised eyebrows for its jaw-dropping prices, with tickets to the fundraiser costing more than $33,000 per person.
The Lebanese-born human rights activist spoke out Tuesday against some policies that could be proposed by a Trump administration, saying his suggestion “that there should be a religious test imposed on entering the U.S., or the fact that there should be state-sponsored torture, or that families of suspected terrorists should all be killed — all of those things are violations of international human rights law and the values that underlie that.”
“I think there’s some concern from abroad as to are these things actually going to happen, or is the U.S. going to lose some of the moral standing that it has internationally,” Clooney, 38, reportedly told the crowd.
