Ellison Predicts ‘More Swamp Creatures Than Ever’ Under Trump
Congressman Keith Ellison believes that, instead of draining the swamp, Trump is filling it.
The Hill reports:
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) on Sunday said President-elect Donald Trump is not going to fulfill his campaign promise of “draining the swamp” in Washington.
“Donald Trump has already proven where he’s going with this thing,” Ellison, who is running to become the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said on CBS’s “Face The Nation.”
“He’s not draining the swamp. He’s filling it up more and there’s going to be more swamp creatures than ever before.”
Ellison said Democrats have to keep fighting for average Americans.
“We have got to be there to work with all those folks who may have not voted or even voted for him,” Ellison said.
“We want to show them that we really care about them, that we respect their voice and that we are going to be fighting for them.”
Trump is “clearly not normal,” he added, while accusing the president-elect of hurting workers across the country.
“His level of abuse of working people is extraordinary,” Ellison said.
“Not to mention his racism, misogyny — extraordinary as well. It’s hard to normalize that and we can never do it, but I would just say, that it’s not about Donald Trump.”
Ellison said Democrats are going to fight Trump because he stands against “our value system,” adding that the party needs to focus on the average working Americans.
“If we make those people the priority, we will win.”
