Trump Aide: Elton John Will Play Inauguration

According to one of President-elect Donald Trump’s aides, Elton John will play at Trump’s inauguration.

“Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the [national] mall for Inauguration,” Anthony Scaramucci, vice chairman of the presidential inaugural committee, told BBC’s “HARDtalk” Tuesday.

The Hill reports:

Scaramucci added that John, an icon of gay culture, demonstrates the incoming Trump administration’s dedication to LGBT rights.
“This will be the first American president in U.S. history that enters the White House with a pro-gay rights stance,” added Scaramucci, who is also a member of the presidential transition team’s executive committee.

An aide to the performer, however, told the New York Post that John wouldn’t perform at Trump’s inauguration.

“Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration,” the representative said.

The Post added that Trump is a huge fan of John, often playing songs like the pop star’s “Tiny Dancer” on the campaign trail.

John endorsed Hillary Clinton over Trump during the 2016 race and headlined fundraisers for the Democratic presidential nominee as recently as last month.

The British musician seemingly panned Trump’s candidacy during an Oct. 13 performance, meanwhile, on Clinton’s behalf.

“We need a humanitarian in the White House, not a barbarian,” he said in Beverly Hills, Calif., adding that Clinton embodies “equality, decency, kindness and respect.”

“She is, without a doubt, the only candidate supremely qualified to lead this great nation in these challenging times,” he said at the time.
