Priebus Calls Clinton Camp Joining Recount Efforts a ‘Hypocritical Joke’
Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff Reince Priebus believes that the vote recount is a waste of time and money since the result will not, in his opinion, change.
The Hill reports:
Reince Priebus on Sunday slammed Hillary Clinton’s campaign for participating in the Wisconsin recount effort initiated by Green Party nominee Jill Stein.
“It is a total and complete hypocritical joke that the group of people that thought that they were nervous about President-elect Trump not conceding are the people that are conducting recounts in states where we won by over 68,000 votes,” Priebus, President-elect Donald Trump’s chief of staff, said on “Fox News Sunday.”
The former Republican National Committee chairman said the American people know the recount efforts are a waste of everyone’s “time and money.”
“And is only to divide this country when we need to come together,” Priebus said.
“And look forward to the future of rebuilding this country and getting us back on track. That’s what President Trump is going to do, that’s what we want to do and this is a total and complete distraction and a fraud.”
Priebus said the Trump campaign will “win again for a second time” after the recount effort, and his opponents will “lose again for the second time.”
The Clinton campaign this weekend announced it will participate in the recount effort in Wisconsin, noting the campaign feels it has an “obligation” to make sure an “accurate vote count will be reported.”
Stein filed for a recount in Wisconsin on Friday afternoon, and has pledged to do the same in Pennsylvania and Michigan, states in which Trump won or is leading by narrow margins.
Priebus on Sunday touted Trump’s win, saying he won in a “historical electoral landslide.”
“It is ridiculous. This is a fundraising notoriety driven fraud by a person who won 33,000 votes in Wisconsin, to President-elect Trump who won 1.4 million,” Priebus said, referring to Stein.
“It’s a waste of everybody’s time,” he said.
