Danny Glover ‘Appalled’ and ‘Angry’ Trump Is Time’s Person of the Year
Actor Danny Glover said on Wednesday that he is “appalled” and “angry” about Time magazine’s decision to pick Donald Trump as their Person of the Year.
“It’s irresponsible to make him Person of the Year,” he said in Washington, D.C., according to The Daily Mail. “Based on what? Based on the fact that he won the Electoral College?
The Hill reports:
“Based on the fact that he lied to people?” asked Glover, who backed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) during the Democratic presidential primary. “Based on the fact that all the stories of all he’s done to women and what he thinks about women?
“Based on his racism? A racist as Person of the Year? I’m appalled, I’m appalled. I’m angry now that Time magazine would name this person Person of the Year. It’s incredible.”
Glover said the selection was a “slap in our face,” pointing to the president-elect’s campaign promises.
“It’s the most disrespectful thing,” he said, citing Trump’s pledges to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and temporarily ban Muslims from the U.S.
Glover also said the opponents have to accept that Trump will be the president but should be prepared to fight him.
“Give him a chance? What? We know who he is. We know exactly who he is. We have to accept that. But we have to fight him every inch. We have to fight him every moment.”
Glover joined Sanders and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the favorite to become the next Democratic National Committee chairman, for a rally Wednesday. They spoke to hundreds of striking workers, urging Trump to deliver on his promise of higher-paying jobs.
Time named Trump its Person of the Year Wednesday morning.
The magazine annually singles out one person or group of people that “for better or for worse … has done the most to influence the events of the year.”
