Bill Clinton: Comey ‘Cost’ My Wife the Election
Bill Clinton believes that if James Comey had not interfered with the election, Hillary would have won.
The Hill reports:
Former President Bill Clinton is blaming his wife’s loss in the presidential election on FBI Director James Comey.
“James Comey cost her the election,” Clinton said, according to an editorial published in the Bedford-Pound Ridge Record Review in New York after its editor ran into Clinton at a local bookstore.
Comey in October sent a letter to lawmakers about the discovery of new emails the FBI said were potentially relevant to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State.
Bill Clinton said Hillary Clinton’s campaign was leading in national polls and on a path to win key battleground states prior to Comey’s letter, as first reported by Politico.
The emails were reportedly found during an unrelated FBI investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who is the estranged husband of one of Clinton’s top aides, Huma Abedin.
Republicans and members of Donald Trump’s campaign seized on the new information, attempting to cast Clinton as corrupt and praising the FBI for the development.
Just days before the general election, Comey announced the FBI had not changed its July conclusion not to bring charges regarding Clinton’s private server.
Since the election, Clinton and other Democrats have cast blame on the FBI director for the Democratic nominee’s lost.
Bill Clinton in the new editorial also criticized Trump when asked whether he thought the president-elect was smart.
“He doesn’t know much,” Clinton said.
“One thing he does know is how to get angry, white men to vote for him.”
