McConnell Fumes Over Dem Boycott
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell slammed Senate Democrats for their decision to boycott several committee votes for President Trump’s cabinet picks.
The Hill reports:
McConnell said Democrats were unfairly obstructing Trump by boycotting committee votes on Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin and Health and Human Services Secretary nominee Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), and filibustering Sen. Jeff Sessions’s (R-Ala.) nomination to serve as attorney general.
“It is time to get over the fact that they lost the election,” he said.
Asked about statements by Mnuchin and Price that Democrats have called “lies,” McConnell said the minority party was “manufacturing issues.”
He added that if they didn’t find fault with their testimony, they would have come up with other reasons to delay their nominations.
Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (Texas) said Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) was being pulled left by what he called the Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)-Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) faction of the Democratic Party.
“It’s really important that Democrats get over it and start to play ball,” Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Thune (S.D.) said.
