Trump Returning to Mar-A-Lago for Third Straight Weekend
President Trump is set to head to Mar-a-Lago for the third straight weekend since taking office.
The Hill reports:
Trump, who has referred to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., as the “Winter White House,” will return just days after he stayed there with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The Federal Aviation Administration posted a notice on flight restrictions in the Palm Beach area for Feb. 17.
During his most recent trip to the resort, Trump and Abe scrambled in the resort’s crowded dining room to respond to North Korea’s ballistic missile test launched over the weekend. Guests at the resort saw the meeting and posted photos of it on social media.
Another guest posted a photo with the person he claims is responsible for carrying the president’s “nuclear football,” a bag that contains the nuclear launch codes.
Politico reported that one of Trump’s weekend visits to Mar-a-Lago could cost taxpayers more than $3 million. The findings were based on a government report detailing a similar trip former President Barack Obama took while at the White House.
Throughout Obama’s presidency, Trump frequently criticized Obama for taking vacations and playing golf. Trump vowed he would not take similar vacations during his presidency.
“There’s just so much to be done,” Trump said after winning the presidential election. “So I don’t think we’ll be very big on vacations, no.”
After Trump took office, Mar-a-Lago doubled membership rates, to $200,000 a year.
