Vatican Chief Justice: Obama’s Policies ‘Have Become Progressively More Hostile Toward Christian Civilization’

It’s not just those on the American right objecting to what they call President Obama’s “anti-Christianity,” some in the Vatican are now accusing the president of hostility towards Christians as well. In an interview with Polonia Christiana magazine, Vatican Chief Justice Cardinal Raymond Burke said that Obama’s policies have “become progressively more hostile toward Christian civilization.”

Burke told the magazine that “It is true that the policies of the president of the United States have become progressively more hostile toward Christian civilization. He appears to be a totally secularized man who aggressively promotes anti-life and anti-family policies.”

He went on to claim that Obama is attempting to place restrictions on religious freedom. “Now he wants to restrict the exercise of the freedom of religion to freedom of worship, that is, he holds that one is free to act according to his conscience within the confines of his place of worship but that, once the person leaves the place of worship, the government can constrain him to act against his rightly-formed conscience, even in the most serious of moral questions.”

Burke even took a shot at Obamacare, saying the birth control mandate in the law “would have been unimaginable in the United States even 40 years ago.” He added that “In a democracy, such a lack of awareness is deadly. It leads to the loss of the freedom which a democratic government exists to protect. It is my hope that more and more of my fellow citizens, as they realize what is happening, will insist on electing leaders who respect the truth of the moral law as it is respected in the founding principles of our nation.”

He finished off the interview optimistic that the United States would end abortion, saying that “There is hope that the evil anti-life laws of the United States can be overthrown and that the anti-life movement which urges yet more of such legislation can be resisted. The pro-life movement in the United States has been working since 1973 to reverse the unjust decision of the Supreme Court which struck down state laws prohibiting procured abortion. It is true that the Supreme Court decision stands, but it is also true that the pro-life movement has grown ever stronger in the United States, that is, that more and more citizens, especially young citizens, have been awakened to the truth about the grave evil of procured abortion.”

It should be noted that Pope Francis is no fan of the Cardinal. He removed Burke from the Congregation for Bishops just four months ago.

I think you should have freedom of religion. I also feel that you should have the freedom to pay taxes also since you have decided to interject yourselves in politics.

    • Divuthen

This guy is already on his way out. He was stripped of most of his power by the Pope as it is. Just like “conservatives” in all aspects of life. When they start to lose power they shake their fist start calling names.

  • Melvin Miller

This Cardinal should be defrocked if he continues to dabble in politics. Or he would have sat well among the San Hedrin Council.

    • Dewenda Cooper

Love it, so true Melvin Miller

Why aren’t the churches paying their fair share of taxes? The Catholics didn’t don much to the priest who were having sex with young boys Raymond Burke, Vatican Chief Justice Cardinal. They just moved them around and this idiot has the nerve to make such a statement about the president.

  • Dewenda Cooper

Ok im not catholic but let’s not talk about taking away peoples right to religious freedom ok. In a not so distant pass you all were condemning people because they didn’t believe in your doctrines many murdered. You still teach the belief in indulgence. How can you dare to critize the president when your falsehoods and molestation of people who trust and believe in you have been betrayed though out the centuries. Oh i forgot the pope is God here on earth. Bullshit.

  • Dewenda Cooper

Anyway being a cardinal and the catholic church are a career and mostly self ambition. Nothing real holy all man made.

  • djmarc

so now the self righteous think they have a place to weigh in who is good and who is bad… Im thinking the church needs to do a great deal of self reflection before subjecting any of us to their meaningless opinions on damn near anything.
