Pastor: Handing Out AR-15s in Church is ‘Exactly’ What Jesus Taught Us 2000 Years Ago
Reverend John Koletas, a pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Troy, New York, is arguing that his church’s AR-15 raffle is what the church has done since Jesus Christ walked and that they intend to hold more raffles.
During church services on Sunday, the pastor raffled away an AR-15 assault rifle. In an interview with WNYT, Koletas said “This is doing exactly what we’ve always done for the last 2,000 years since Jesus walked the shores of Galilee.”
“This is not a protest for anything,” Koletas continued. “It’s only different because everybody else has turned against God and turned against the Bible that this is such a shock to people that don’t know the Bible.”
Koletas posted a letter online, saying he wants to give respect to gun owners “who have been so viciously attacked by the antichristian socialist media.”
The winner of the rifle, Ron Staffold, traveled 25 miles and sat through a three-hour church service just for the chance to win the AR-15 despite not even being a member of Koletas’ congregation.
“I believe it’s the right of the individual, I believe the church and our God-given rights and our rights to follow the Constitution go hand in hand,” Stafford said. “I like to shoot. I believe that this shows the will of the people and what this country is all about.”
Staffold then turned his attention to the media, saying “I’ve been around weapons my whole life, since I was probably around 4 or 5 years old. And I believe it’s been portrayed illy by the media.”
“I believe I’m representing gun owners very well,” Staffold continued, noting his clean criminal record.
