Republican: We Need More Fred Phelps in This World

Edward Farrell, the vice mayor of Maricopa, Arizona has raised more than a few eyebrows after posting an obituary for Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps, saying the world needs more people like the “God Hates Fags” picketer who routinely protested outside of funerals.

“We need more people like Fred Phelps in this world. May you rest in peace, sir” Farrell posted on Facebook.

One commenter quickly asked if he meant it as a joke to which Farrell replied “No, I’m not kidding! This world needs to get back to the biblical standards that our God made for us. This guy was not afraid to preach it, and I respect that.”

He went on, saying “I am just having a hard time with all of this (sic) gay and lesbian rights thing. It has never been an issue until these kind of people made it an issue.”

Farrell said that he recently had a male employee at a Washington D.C. hotel take photos of him in the gym shower. “What in the heck makes these people think that they are so entitled?” Farrell asked. “Yes, he was fired immediately! I don’t get it? It’s sick!” So, naturally, this “gay lesbian thing” is actually all about Farrell.

After getting slammed by commenters on Facebook, Farrell wrote “Just got on a soap box for awhile. I’m off of it now. Still very affected by what happened to me in dc.”

Farrell also linked to an “obituary” called “Fred Phelps, Man Who Forever Stopped March of Gay Rights, Dead at 84” only to realize that story was a satirical article by The Onion.
