Iraq Vet Claims PTSD After Plot to Have KKK Kill Black Neighbor ‘Like an Animal’
An Alabama man has been sentenced to six years in prison after attempting to hire members of the Ku Klux Klan to torture and kill his black neighbor. The sentence was reduced after his lawyers argued that the defendant was suffering from PTSD.
In October, 30-year-old Iraq vet Allen Wayne Densen Morgan pleaded guilty to charges of using interstate facilities to attempt to commit a murder for hire. It wasn’t much of a case since the man that Morgan thought was a KKK member for hire was actually an undercover FBI agent. Morgan reportedly believed his neighbor was having an affair with his wife and wanted to hire the supposed KKK member to torture and kill the man.
According to recordings, Morgan said he wanted his neighbor “hung from a tree like a deer and gutted.” He goes on to say he wants all of his body parts cut off and wants him to “die a slow, painful death.”
Morgan was recorded telling the undercover fed “I want this man hung from a tree like he is an animal. I want his penis cut off and I want him cut. You’re a hunting man, right? I want him hung from the tree and gutted.”
Morgan’s lawyers argued that the defendant was suffering from depression and PTSD as a result of serving in 175 combat missions in Iraq. The judge reduced the sentence on account of his military service and diagnosed mental problems.
His attorney Glennon Threatt says “I can never say that I’m happy when a client of mine goes to prison but based on what was presented to the judge, I think that the sentence that my client received was fair.”
