‘I Know it Messed You Up, I Thought I Cared About You’: Teacher Avoids Jails Despite Having Sex With Student 10 Times
A Florida teacher who had sex with a 16-year-old student multiple times and fed her drugs and alcohol has been sentenced to two years of house arrest and five years of probation.
James Wolfe, a 31-year-old former English teacher and cross-country coach at Matanzas High School in Palm Beach had coached the victim when she attended the school in 2010 and 2011. The girl, who asked to have her identity withheld, told police that Wolfe seduced her and had sex with her seven to ten times between 2010 and 2011 while she was only 16 years old.
Detectives wrote “during each incident the victim stated that she felt compelled to engage in sexual acts with Wolfe because of his position of authority over her.”
The girl also said that Wolfe gave her unknown drugs to “calm her nerves.”
She says one of the times they had sex, he drove her up into a nature preserve and set up a tent in the woods for them to have sex in.
The relationship reportedly ended in April 2011 when Wolfe’s girlfriend discovered them in bed together at their house.
The girl did not report the incidents to the police until she was 18.
Police had her wear a wire and meet with Wolfe. Wolfe was recorded admitting to the affair, saying “I know it messed you up,” adding that he had sex with her “because I thought I cared about you.”
After he was arrested, prosecutors worked out a plea deal because the accuser did not want to testify in the trial.
