‘Belligerent’ Fox News Anchor Gregg Jarrett Arrested in Airport Bar
Fox News anchor Gregg Jarrett was arrested at a Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport bar on Wednesday after he reportedly got too drunk.
At around 12 pm on Wednesday, police were called to the Northern Lights Grill in the airport’s main terminal where police say Jarrett was “intoxicated,” “belligerent,” and “refused to follow their orders.”
Police arrested the 59-year-old Jarrett for interfering with a peace officer, a misdemeanor. He was released around 1 am on $300 bond.
Jarrett, a weekend anchor, is currently on leave from Fox News for “personal reasons.” In April, viewers noticed Jarrett “behaving strangely” and “slurring his words” on a broadcast. He reportedly left his show early without any explanation.
A spokesperson for Fox News said “we were made aware late last night that Gregg Jarrett was arrested in Minneapolis yesterday and charged with a misdemeanor. He is dealing with serious personal issues at this time. A date at which Gregg might return to air has yet to be determined.”
The Los Angeles-born anchor has worked at Fox News since 2002 and is an occasional fill-in anchor for America’s Newsroom, Happening Now, and Studio B. He also does hour-long documentaries for the network and serves as one of their legal analysts.
Prior to coming to Fox, Jarrett worked as an anchor at MSNBC and was the anchor on shift during the 9/11 attacks. He has also worked at Court TV, CNBC, and a number of local PBS, ABC, and NBC affiliates in California, Maryland, North Carolina, and Kansas.
Many have been quick to speculate that Jarrett’s absence from the air may have something to do with his marriage. Jarrett has been married to Catherine Anderson since 1993.
