‘Pro-Family, Anti-Abortion’ GOP Candidate’s 17-Year-Old Daughter is Pregnant
Bill Cassidy, a Republican Congressman running to unseat Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu in Louisiana has announced that his 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.
Earlier this year, Laura and I learned that we will become grandparents this summer,” Cassidy said in a statement. “Our children have been the greatest blessing of our lives and we welcome our grandchild as a joyous addition to our family. Our daughter now faces a more challenging future than her peers. She has our unconditional love and support.”
The 17-year-old girl will be a senior at Baton Rouge High School this fall and her baby is due in the summer.
Many critics have gone out of their way to slam Cassidy, saying this shows the hypocrisy of his “pro-family message” and his strong stance against abortion rights for women who don’t want to go down his daughter’s path.
His campaign website proudly states that Cassidy “works to promote the culture of life and protect the unborn.”
The abortion issue has become a key factor in his race against Landrieu.
Earlier this year, Landrieu said her position on abortion is “nuanced.”
“I’ve voted against late-term abortion, I voted for access in the pre-viability [period],” she said. “Although I personally believe that life begins at conception, I believe the last place the government needs to be is in the church, in the doctor’s office, or in the bedroom.”
Cassidy has slammed her position in the past, saying, “She has supported using U.S. taxpayer dollars for overseas abortions and most folks, even if they are pro-choice, don’t care for that.”
