Poll: Mormons Hate Obama More Than Any Other Group

A new Gallup poll has broken down President Obama’s job approval numbers by the religion of respondents and found that Mormons, members of the Church of Latter Day Saints, dislike Obama more than any other group.

The poll found that just 18 percent of Mormons approve of the job Obama is doing while a whopping 78 percent disapprove. That’s down from 25 percent, which has been the average Obama approval rating among Mormons since he was elected.

Among Protestants and other Christians, just 37 percent approve of the job Obama has done while 58 percent disapprove. Nearly half the country identifies as non-Catholic Christian so this is the largest group sampled.

Catholic voters are a mixed bag with 44 percent approving of the job he has done and 51 disapproving. That’s right around where Obama’s approval rating is overall.

Among non-religious voters and atheists, 54 percent approve of the job Obama is doing while just 38 percent disapprove. That’s still down from Obama’s average of 60 percent approval among non-religious voters.

Among Jewish voters, 55 percent approve of Obama’s handling of the presidency while 41 percent disapprove. Since he was elected, Obama has averaged a 62 percent approval rating among Jewish voters.

Muslim voters are by far Obama’s biggest fans with 72 percent of Muslim voters approving of the job he has done while 20 percent disapprove.

What do you think about all this? Why do Mormons and Christian voters dislike the president so much? Why do Muslim voters approve of the president at a much higher rate than the rest of the country?
