School Official Tweets Photo of Mixed Race Couples, ‘Every White Girl’s Father’s Worst Nightmare’
Students at a Virginia high school staged a walk-out on Monday after a school official tweeted a photo of mixed-race couples with the message, “every white girl’s father’s worst nightmare.”
WVEC reports that the tweet was originally posted in June by a Booker T. Washington High School official but was just noticed by students.
The post showed seven white girls in dresses with seven Africa-American men in tuxedos with a caption saying, “every white girl’s father’s worst nightmare.”
Raw Story reports that more than a dozen black students carried protest signs as the y walked out of class on Monday, claiming the school board has thus far refused to respond to their complaints.
Student Michael Lemelle told WVEC, “This was the only actual way we could get someone’s attention, was to walk outside. It shouldn’t have come to this but [the administrator has] avoided all meetings and public speakings and emails, just avoided them all.”
Students explained they don’t even want the official to be fired, merely to have the opportunity to explain how hurtful his message was.
“Me being a young African-American, I don’t think of myself as anyone’s worst nightmare,” Lemelle told WVEC.
