Restaurant: ‘No Malice Intended’ When We Called Man the N-Word on Bar Receipt

A Pennsylvania restaurant is under fire after a bartender used the N-word rather than the patron’s name on the receipt.

Marquis Moore says he was at Zembie’s Sports Tavern in Harrisburg when he noticed the word “nigga” was written on his food receipt instead of his name.

“It makes me feel like I’m just low,” Moore told The Patriot News. “A nigga is an ignorant, disrespectful person. It has nothing to do with your skin color. What would possess you to put something like that on a piece of paper? You don’t even know who I am.”

But Zembie’s owner Angelo Karagiannis says the whole incident was a misunderstanding.

Bartender Megan Bonsall told the owner that she asked one of Moore’s friends for his name for the receipt while he was busy chatting at the bar and the friend showed him his Facebook profile where Moore allegedly described himself as a “sexy nigga.”

She says she wrote down “nigga” as a joke.

“Megan has worked for me for 12 to 13 years,” Karagiannis told The Patriot News. “There was no malice intended at all. We have a Redskins fan club and every week there are 12-15 black guys who come in to watch the games. We are not racist at all and serve anyone.”

“I’m hurt by the situation,” Moore says. “I am just a random Joe and she could have just taken the time to ask my name. Racism is no longer behind closed doors.”
