Rush Limbaugh: Idris Elba Can’t Be Next James Bond Because He’s Black

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh discussed the rumors that Idris Elba, the star of Mandela, Luther, and The Wire, may be the next James Bond, and dismissed the idea because he’s black.

“James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming,” Limbaugh argued. “He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond was. But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Britain [sic], rather than a white from Scotland. But that’s not who James Bond is and I know it’s racist to probably point this out.”

Rush went on to say Elba playing Bond is just like if George Clooney and Kate Hudson were cast to play Barack and Michelle Obama.

Of course, one is a fictional character while the First Family… isn’t.

The rumors have been swirling after one of the leaked Sony Entertainment emails showed co-chairperson Amy Pascal telling former Columbia Pictures vice president Elizabeth Cantillon that “Idris should be the next Bond.”
