Man Drives 15 Hours So He Can Shoot His Girlfriend’s Family on Christmas Morning

A Texas man reportedly spent 15 hours on the road planning to shoot his girlfriend’s family at their Florida home on Christmas Eve.

Police say 23-year-old Preston Pollard drove from North Texas to Marion County with the intention of killing his girlfriend’s stepmom.

Police said the stepmother, 55-year-old Mary Lou Hutson, was shot almost immediately after Pollard showed up at the family’s door on Christmas morning.

“She was shot and then he went to the next parent, Richard Hutson, and shot him,” Marion County Sheriff’s spokesperson Lauren Letterlier told WFAA.

Mary Lou Hutson is reportedly in critical condition at an area hospital.

Richard Hutson passed away from his wounds.

The girlfriend and other family members inside the house were not injured.

After shooting his girlfriend’s parents, Pollard fled the scene.

Police found him and attempted to pull him over about 350 miles away from the house. Pollard shot and killed himself before he could be taken into custody.

Pollard’s father defended his son, saying he was not a violent person.

“I know my son,” Stephen Pollard told WFAA. “That’s not him, he was not a mean person. Something went wrong. Nobody really knows what happened… They say he opened the door and started shooting. That doesn’t sound very likely to me. Why would he drive all that way to kill somebody?”
