Texas Cops Fatally Shoot a Handcuffed Man Trying to Flee

Police in Texas fatally shot a handcuffed man who they say was attempting to steal a police car.

On Monday, police tried to pull over 24-year-old Joshua Omar Garcia.

When the driver didn’t stop, police gave chase and the Lynn County Sheriff’s Office Deputy ended up colliding with Garcia’s car.

“Garcia was taken into custody and placed inside a LCSO Tahoe,” a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety says. “While officers were processing the vehicle, Garcia slipped the handcuffs from the rear to his front and tried to steal the LCSO Tahoe.”

It’s unclear why they felt the need to use deadly force but officers opened fire on Garcia.

It’s also unclear how many shots were fired and where Garcia was hit.

Garcia was flown to the University Medical Center in Lubbock where he was pronounced dead.

The Lynn County Sheriff’s Office has requested that the Texas Rangers assist in their investigation.
