GOP Congressman’s Top Aide Compares Black People to Zoo Animals
A top advisor to Republican Illinois Congressman Aaron Schock has deleted a series of Facebook posts comparing black people to zoo animals after outrage from the left and right alike.
Benjamin Cole, who was previously a Baptist pastor as well as a spokesperson for the energy industry, compared two black people he saw outside of his Washington D.C. apartment to animals and posted a video of an argument they had.
“So apparently the closing of the National Zoo has forced the animals to conduct their mating rituals on my street,” Cole wrote on his Facebook page.
Raw Story notes that the National Zoo was closed that week because of the government shutdown Republicans pushed for to delay parts of the Affordable Care Act.
Cole, Schock’s policy and communications advisor, also posted a video of an argument the couple had, using the hashtag #gentrifytoday.”
In another post, Cole claimed he saw “one of the hood rats on my street get shot by another hood rat.”
In another post, Cole claimed that when he tried to report he was assaulted by a black woman, the black police officer told him, “You white people need to learn.”
All of those posts have since been deleted.
