‘Run N*gger, Run’: After 4 Grand Juries, Judge Indicted In Racist Attack on Mentally Disabled Man
A year after he was arrested for allegedly hitting a mentally disabled African American man at a flea market in Mississippi, a former judge has been indicted for assault.
Last Thursday, former Justice Court Judge Bill Weisenberger turned himself in and was released on $10,000 bond.
Last year, Weisenberger was arrested of hitting 20-year-old Eric Rivers after the mentally disabled man asked for a job at the flea market.
Witness Tammy Westbrook says she saw Weisenberger “rear back and slap” the man twice before he began to yell “run, boy, run” and “run, n*gger, run.”
Weisenberger stepped down from his position after an investigation. It took four grand juries before Weisenberger was indicted. The Attorney General’s Public Integrity Division took over the case after Madison District Attorney Michael Guest recused himself from the case.
Since last year’s incident, several other allegations of racism against Weisenberger have come to light.
The judge reportedly imposed an illegal DUI sentence against an African-American defendant and is being sued by an African-American woman who says she was arrested and imprisoned for a nonexistent charge of “roaming livestock.”
Weisenberger faces up to five years in prison and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
