Rich White Guys Attack Food Servers While Calling Them the N-Word: ‘Dude, I’m Totally Getting Away With This’
Three food truck vendors in Denver say they were assaulted by a group of men who yelled racial slurs at them after they were refused service.
Terrence Gibbons says three men placed an order at his food truck shortly after Friday’s Colorado Rockies game when one of them began to swear and yell racial slurs.
“He pretty much singled me out for being black by using a word we’re all familiar with,” Gibbons told KMGH. “He kept using the N-word. He kept saying that I didn’t really know what it was like to be black.”
Gibbons, who owns the Big T’s Barbecue truck, refused to serve them and one of them men punched Gibbons’ friend, who was helping him serve food, in the face. A fight quickly broke out between the three men and Gibbons and two friends who were helping him.
KMGH reports that one of the attackers jumped Gibbons from behind, slamming his head into a car window and breaking the glass, which knocked Gibbons unconscious.
Gibbons and one of his friends were hospitalized after the attack but one of them was able to take a photo of two of the assailants on his phone before the men fled.
“I told him he wasn’t going to get away with it,” Gibbons’ friend, Karl Umland, told the station. “He was like, ‘Dude, I’m totally getting away with this – my whole family is rich. We’re wealthy and my dad’s an attorney.’”
No arrests have been made but police say they have strong leads and are considering the attack a “possible hate crime.”
