Miami Dolphins Richie Incognito Suspended For Alleged Racist Voicemails
Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito has been suspended indefinitely from the team for racist voicemails he allegedly sent to team member Jonathan Martin. Sources told FOX Sports that the voicemails were both threatening and racially charged in nature.
CBS Sports reported that Incognito referred to the biracial Martin as a “half-ni**er,” in addition to threatening to both track down and harm members of his family. Incognito has not released a statement about the racist allegations against him, but denied them on his Twitter and page and wrote, “I want my name CLEARED.”
Martin allegedly left the team last Sunday after fellow team members played a prank on him. He has since been placed on the injury list with an unspecified “illness. The Miami Dolphins originally denied the reports about Martin before changing their tone and suspending Incognito.
The Dolphins had released a statement which called the bullying reports “based on speculation and not been presented to us as a concern from Jonathan or anyone else internally.” But after suspending Incognito, they released another statement yesterday which read: “We believe in maintaining a culture of respect for one another, and as a result we believe this decision is in the best interest of the organization at this time.”
It remains unclear when, or if, Martin will return to the team.
