KKK Imperial Wizard Opposes Child’s Klan Halloween Costume
The Ku Klux Klan may not be okay with KKK Halloween costumes. A Virginia mother generated controversy by dressing her 7-year-old son in a Klan robe and hood on Halloween, but perhaps the most surprising advocate against the costume is a KKK Imperial Wizard. Bradley Jenkins said he was bothered by the costume because it shows “there’s no respect for the Klan.”
The Imperial Wizard said he was against the Halloween costume because you have to be 18 years old to join the Klan, and it only further ostracizes the hate group further from mainstream society. “The Klan has seven sacred symbols and the robe is one of them. None of this is a joke,” said Jenkins. “Nowadays we’re ostracized … [the way people treat us now] is no different than the way people used to treat African Americans years ago.”
However, members of white supremacist message boards were largely in favor of the costume. “It’s okay to dress 7 year olds as hookers and hobos. Yet a klan costume gets shame and death threats,” read one post on Stormfront.
Jessica Black defended her decision to put her child in the KKK costume, declaring it was a family tradition. “It’s supposed to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that,” said Jessica to WHSV-TV. “That’s what the KKK stands for. The KKK every year, raises money to donate to the St. Jude’s.” Her son, Jackson, told the TV station that he thought the costume was “cool” and liked “the hat part” most.
