Why Is Kanye West Claiming The Grammy Awards Are Racist?
It’s the dream of every musician and singer to be nominated for a Grammy. But Kanye West is fuming at the Grammy committee because they didn’t nominate him for more of them. The rapper received two Grammy nominations for the 2014 event, picking up a Best Rap Album nomination for Yeezus and Best Rap Song nomination for “New Slaves.” But despite the praise, Kim Kardashian’s fiancé ranted on stage during his concert last night in Phoenix and not-so-subtly accused the award show and nomination committee of being racist.
“I’m 36-years-old and I have 21 Grammys. That’s the most Grammys of any 36-year-old. Out of all of those 21 Grammys, I’ve never won a Grammy against a white artist,” said West. He then ranted about his apparent lack of Grammy nominations this year by asking, “Do they think that I wouldn’t notice? Do they think that, someway, I don’t have the power to completely diminish all of their credibility at this moment … And people come to me and congratulate me on those two nominations. F— THOSE NOMINATIONS!”
Earlier this month, West infuriated people with a separate bigoted comment, declaring that African-Americans have fewer opportunities in society than Jewish people do. “People want to say Obama can’t make those moves or he’s not executing. That’s cause he ain’t got those connections. Black people don’t have the same level of connections as Jewish people,” he said. “You know we don’t know nobody that got a nice house … with paper that we can go to when we’re down. Can you guarantee your daughter could get a job at this radio station? If you own this radio station, you could guarantee that.”
