Tea Party Leader’s Racist Tweet Tells Blacks To Stop ‘Bitching’ About Slavery
A Tea Party leader has made the shocking suggestion that African-Americans stop “bitching and moaning” about slavery. Glynis Racine, leader of the Lincoln County Tea Party Patriots, posted a meme on her Twitter page which read, “White Irish slaves were treated worse than any other race in the US. When is the last time you heard an Irishman bitching & moaning about how the world owes them a living.” The shocking tweet went viral and sparked outrage among both Democrats and Republicans.
“Glynis is exactly the type of fear mongering leader Fox News and the conservative movement push to the front of their movement,” said Patrick Davis of Progress Now New Mexico. “They shouldn’t be surprised they are having a hard time recruiting blacks, Hispanics or reasonable people of any color to their side.” Other people tweeted Racine directly with comments that included, “Paging @YesYoureRacist.”
Racine has since deleted the racist tweet, but hasn’t exactly apologized for it. “Slavery is a black mark on American history, but it’s time to move on,” she tweeted on Wednesday. Representatives for the Lincoln County Tea Party Patriots have not responded to her offensive post.
The tweet comes at a time when Republicans are looking to revamp their image and present themselves as more moderate ahead of the upcoming elections. Republican House Speaker John Boehner insinuated that conservative Republican sects like the Tea Party are actually hurting the chances of conservatives winning elections. He said that, “Frankly, I just think they’ve lost all credibility at this point.”
