‘Real Housewives’ Star Thought Underground Railroad Was An Actual Train
In one of the most ignorant comments aired on TV in 2013, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Stewart revealed that she thought the Underground Railroad was an actual train. The incident came during this week’s episode as the cast took a Freedom Trail tour in Savannah, GA. Stewart expressed disbelief when their tour guide took them to a church and explained that former slaves crawled under ventilation holes in the floor to escape.
“There has to be an opening for the railroad at some point,” she said. “Somebody is driving the train. It’s not electric like what we have now.” Co-star Phaedra Parks explained to Stewart that there was no physical train as the rest of the cast looked on in a mixture of amusement and horror. Fellow Housewives star Kenya Moore told the cameras that “it’s almost hurtful to me to watch her be so dumb.”
The subject of race has also come up in other branches of the franchise. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville was fired from a hosting gig at a Florida casino after a racist joke she made during a recent episode to cast member Joyce Giraud. When Giraud told Glanville that she couldn’t swim, the reality star responded in the episode saying: “You’re a black person. All my black friends can’t swim. Is that bad?” She later explained that she was only joking and that, “my black friends would have laughed crazy because they don’t go in the pool because they will get their weave f*cked up.”
