Megachurch Pastor’s New Book Says Obama Will Spark Antichrist Arrival
In one what could easily be the most absurd statement so far in 2014, a megachurch pastor in Texas claims that the actions of President Barack Obama will lead to the arrival of the Antichrist. Dallas-based pastor Robert Jeffress, writes in his new book Perfect Ending that the policies of the Obama administration are confirmation that the Antichrist will eventually arrive and persecute all Christians not swept up into heaven.
Jeffress, who preaches at the First Baptist Church in Dallas, thinks Obama’s stance on same-sex marriage is the ultimate indicator of this. “For the first time in history a president of our country has openly proposed altering one of society’s (not to mention God’s) most fundamental laws: that marriage should be between a man and a woman,” he wrote in the book. “While I am not suggesting that President Obama is the Antichrist, the fact that he was able to propose such a sweeping change in God’s law and still win reelection by a comfortable margin illustrates how a future world leader will be able to oppose God’s laws without any repercussions.”
The preacher also believes that the Antichrist will inflict the same actions as stated in the Bible, including persecuting and imprisoning whatever Christians were left behind by the Rapture. It’s for this reason that Jeffress endorsed Mitt Romney over Obama in the last Presidential election despite believing that Mormonism is a cult.
“[It’s] no different than German Lutheran pastors who didn’t speak out against Hitler’s growing influence in the late 1930s,” he wrote. “This is no time for God’s men to be passive. It’s time to stand up and push back against all the evil in our country…Tell your people that they have a choice: to cast a vote for righteousness or vote for unrighteousness.”
