Outrageously Racist Richard Sherman Twitter Comments Hit Internet
The reaction from Seattle Seahawks football player Richard Sherman to advancing to the Super Bowl sparked controversy among some football fans, but the racist reactions to it on Twitter were beyond disproportionate in response. Sherman, who intercepted a pass from the San Francisco 49‘ers quarterback that sent his team to the Super Bowl. In a brief post-game interview on the field with Erin Andrews, his remarks that many felt were arrogant and over-the-top quickly went viral.
“When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that’s the result you gonna get. Don’t you ever talk about me,” said Sherman. When Andrews asked who was talking about him, he said, “Crabtree. Don’t you ever open your mouth about the best or I’m gonna shut it for you real quick. L.O.B.”
After the game, several football fans unleashed outrageously racist comments at Sherman in reaction to his interview. “Richard Sherman just proved you can take the ni**er out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the ni**er,” wrote @steveflei. The comment was particularly ironic since he attended Stanford University. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop @TheDonjT from tweeting, “I hate Richard Sherman man. Idc where he went to school. He’s a f*cking ni**er.”
At least 40 tweets involving Sherman and the use of the N-word could be seen within hours after the game. @Mrr_Jackson referred to him as a “f*cking porch monkey,” while @BMWyco wrote that “Sherman is still a ni**er..And my cotton still isn’t picked.” @Freshman_Nick3 even suggested that “Sherman should get lynched.”
