#HeForShe Sparks Twitter War, Why Is This Issue So Divisive?

Emma Watson stunned the world this weekend with her speech to the United Nations about gender inequality across the globe. Taken at face value, Watson’s point is both sound and inspiring. The idea that men and women can work together to ensure that women across the globe aren’t mutilated, sold into slavery, or denied access to education and basic freedom.

Yet for some reason, on this issue, people can’t seem to get past the gender-based teams. Rather than talking about what can be done to make things better, they argue about who has it worse. And we can watch these discussions play out on Twitter.

Some people are immediately supportive of Watson’s HeForShe Campaign.
