Piers Morgan vs. Rick Warren! Watch Video Of Gay Marriage Debate
Preacher Rick Warren squared off against CNN host in a tense debate regarding gay marriage on Piers Morgan Live. Morgan, an outspoken advocate of gay rights, accused Warren of being narrow-minded and homophobic, but Warren fought back and said that he was more concerned about what God thought about gay marriage than liberal society.
Morgan directly asked Warren, “how can you espouse genuine equality if you don’t allow gay people the same right to get married as straight people?” As he continued to ask Warren to explain his views in a more broad manner, the preacher finally accused Morgan of being unfair with manner of questioning.
“While I may disagree with you on your views on sexuality, it does not give me a right to demean you, to demoralize you, to defame you, to turn you into a demon,” said Warren. “See tolerance, Piers, used to mean we treat each other with mutual respect, even if we have major disagreements. Today, tolerance has been changed to mean ‘all ideas are equally valid.’”
When the Brit asked Warren if he could see himself eventually changing its views, Warren responded by declaring he “cannot see that happening in my life. I fear the disapproval of God more than I fear your disapproval or the disapproval of society. “I’m more against the redefinition of the term marriage than anything else.”
Last December, Warren sparked controversy in an interview with Beliefnet by appearing to equate gay marriages with marriages between siblings, multiple partners, and adults and minors. He later clarified that he did not think homosexuality was comparable to pedophilia or incest, but did not endorse same-sex weddings.
