Megyn Kelly Cries ‘Race Baiting’ Over Backlash To Her ‘White Santa’ Comment
Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly thinks you’re race baiting if you disagree with her comments. The Kelly File host became fodder for late night talk show hosts by declaring, in response to an essay by Slate writer Aisha Harris that there should be a black Santa, that “Santa just is white” and that Jesus being white is a “verifiable fact.” In comments made over the weekend, Kelly declared that she was clearly being tongue-in-cheek and accused liberals of “race baiting” for taking her quotes out of context.
“This would be funny if it were not so telling about our society. In particular, the knee jerk instinct by so many to race bait and to assume the worst in people. Contrary to what my critics said, neither my statement, nor Harris’s, was motivated by any racial fear or loathing.” said Kelly on her show. “The fact that an offhand jest I made during a segment about whether Santa should be replaced by a penguin has now become a national firestorm says two things: Race is still an incredibly volatile issue in this country and FOX News and yours truly are big targets for many people.”
But what might be even scarier than Kelly’s Santa commentary is that people are turning out in droves to support her views. The Kelly File is currently the highest-rated program on Fox News, dominating the numbers of other prime-time hosts on the network including Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. In some cases, her ratings have doubled the numbers of her liberal competitors on other networks including Rachel Maddow and Piers Morgan.
