Famous Russian Actor Wants Gays ‘Burned Alive In Ovens’
A famous Russian actor has infuriated people worldwide by declaring that gay people should be burned alive in ovens. Ivan Okhlobystin, a priest and actor who currently stars in Russia’s version of Scrubs, made the outrageous statements while speaking at a “spiritual talk” in the city of Novosibirsk. Okhlobystin is politically active within the country and has even spoken about running for President within the country.
“I would have them all stuffed alive inside an oven. This is Sodom and Gomorrah, as a believer, I can not remain indifferent to this, it is a living danger to my children,” he said according to the Huffington Post. “I don’t want my children thinking that being a fa**ot is normal. This is gay fascism!” If a man can not choose an appropriate person of the opposite sex for reproduction — that is a clear sign of mental abnormality, then he needs to be deprived of that right to choose.”
Activists within Russia spoke out against his homophobic comments and numerous people have taken to Twitter to criticize Okhlobystin. Nikolay Alexeyev, the leader of Moscow’s gay community, said the actor should be denied visas to “civilized countries” because of his behavior. However, Okhlobystin has spoken out since the controversy and said he does not regret his statements. “The meaning was rendered correctly,” he tweeted. “Everyone has the right to their own opinions.”
Ever since Russia passed a “homosexual propaganda” law over the summer, making it a felony to talk about gay activity to minors, violence against gays has risen substantially. President Barack Obama has responded by sending several current and former gay athletes to the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi as U.S. delegates.
