Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s Christmas Gift Advice: ‘Women Love Money’
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford seems determined to not end 2013 quietly. The disgraced politician has made plenty of blunders throughout the year, but added even more fuel to the fire with his outrageously sexist statements about women today. The comments came during a radio interview yesterday with a Washington station, which asked him what he planned to give his wife for Christmas.
“Women love money. You give them a couple thousand bucks and they’re happy,” he said. “I get a basket and flowers and a little bit of this and that, but at the end of the day, she wants her cash. So I give her a nice check and we’re all happy.”
Unsurprisingly, Ford was slammed on Twitter for his sexist statements. ”Rob Ford’s understanding/respect for women is astounding,” tweeted one woman. Another Twitter user mentioned his drug-fueled incidents by writing, “Women love money and men love crack. A heartwarming insight into Christmas at the Rob Ford household,”
Earlier this week, the controversial mayor was forced to backtrack on statements he made which insinuated that a Toronto Star reporter was a pedophile. During a TV interview last week with former media mogul Conrad Black, Ford said of Dale: “I have little kids. When a guy’s taking pictures of little kids, I don’t want to say the word, but you start thinking, you know, what’s this guy all about?” He defended his comments a day later by saying he “stands by every word” and later repeating them to other news outlet.
Ford said this week he “does not believe Mr. Dale is a pedophile,” but blamed the media for taking his statements out of context. Dale said the apology was insufficient and he would be moving forward with his plans for a defamation lawsuit.
