Democrats Profiting Off Mike Huckabee’s Birth Control Comments
Democrats are already cashing in on the sexist comments made by Republican Mike Huckabee. The former Arkansas governor stated that Democrats don’t believe women can “control their libido” without the help of the government, prompting DNC officials to send out a chain e-mail encouraging people to “chip in $10 or more to support Democrats who respect women and support their right to make their own health care decisions.” Huckabee made the comments yesterday morning during the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting.
DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz slammed his statements by declaring that Huckabee “has no idea what he’s talking about. If this is the GOP rebrand a year later then all they’ve gotten is a year older.” Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the statements were “offensive to me and to women.”
The politician said during his speech that Democrats make women believe “that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of government. [They think their] only goal in life is to have the government provide for them birth control medication.”
Huckabee also said that accusations of Republicans being anti-women couldn’t be further from the truth. “Women are far more than the Democrats have played them to be,” he said. “The fact is the Republicans don’t have a war on women, they have a war for women, to empower them to be something other than victims of their gender.”
However, he has since declared that his quotes were taken out of context and that liberal media “got the story 180 degrees wrong.”
