Fox News Host Martha MacCallum: Women Don’t Want Equal Pay
Fox News host Martha MacCallum is inexplicably waging her own war on women. After Barack Obama called for an end to workplace discrimination in his State of the Union address, MacCallum declared that women don’t want equal pay and are getting “exactly what they’re worth.” This is despite the fact that numerous reports show women make about 77 cents for every dollar men make.
However, MacCallum appears to be reading different statistics. “The numbers, when you look at them, do not bear out that there is a war on women in the workplace,” she said. “The numbers don’t lie. The losers in this Obama economy have been men.”
The Fox News host said that liberal statistics did not account for “voluntary” work absences due to pregnancy and maternity leave, which ultimately balanced out the pay discrepancy. “I think most women do not want to be treated as sort of a special class of citizen,” said MacCallum. “They want to go every day, they want to get paid for being a professional for doing their job really well, and they don’t want to be treated like some special group of people who have to be given a little special handout just to make sure they’re OK.”
Meanwhile, liberal radio host Alan Colmes seemed floored that a woman was arguing against equal pay for women. “The numbers don’t lie in terms of sick leave, pregnancy and women are forced out of the workplace when they have to leave,” he said. “Special handout? It’s equal pay for equal work.”
