VIDEO: Sports Anchor Brilliantly Slams Critics Of Gay NFL Hopeful Michael Sam
Michael Sam, the gay college football star who is expected to be drafted into the NFL next season, has endured plenty of criticism recently for his sexuality. While some of his college teammates said that didn’t “approve” of his homosexuality, others wondered if he would be able to easily assimilate into an NFL locker room. However, Dallas sports anchor Dale Hansen isn’t one of those people.
In a brilliant commentary that has since gone viral, Hansen slammed Sam’s critics and said that gay athletes should be welcomed into any professional environment. He also exposed the hypocrisy of the criticism given the indiscretions of some current NFL stars. “You beat a woman and drag her down a flight of stairs, pulling her hair out by the roots? You’re the fourth guy taken in the NFL draft,” he ranted.
But Hansen was hardly done there. “You kill people while driving drunk? That guy’s welcome. Players caught in hotel rooms with illegal drugs and prostitutes? We know they’re welcome,” he said. Players accused of rape and pay the woman to go away? You lie to police trying to cover up a murder? We’re comfortable with that. You love another man? Well, now you’ve gone too far!”
The sports anchor compared Sam’s situation with black athletes formerly not being allowed to play pro sports because it made people “uncomfortable.” Since his rant was posted two days ago, it has collected over 1.6 million views. Ellen DeGeneres has also invited Hansen to appear as a guest on her talk show.
