Obama-like Satan Has Been ‘Cast Out’ of Theatrical Release of Upcoming Jesus Epic

Last year, controversy erupted after Roma Downey and Mark Burnett’s mini-series ‘The Bible’ featured a Satan character that bore a striking resemblance to President Barack Obama. To avoid making waves this time around,  when their Jesus epic hits theaters at the end of the month the Obama-like Satan character has been cut from  ‘Son of God’ movie.

Downey, who created the film to reflect her own faith, said that the controversy that erupted over the Satan character took away from Jesus’ much-anticipated appearance in the third episode of the television series.

“There was great excitement that Jesus was coming — trailers and talk shows and even Twitter was buzzing with anticipation,” the actress, who also played Mary the mother of Jesus in the miniseries, said. “So Jesus came onto the screen and people went wild. He was beautiful and strong and kind and compassionate — everything we hoped for.”

Unfortunately, the episode was also the one featuring the Obama-like Satan, and instead of Jesus getting all the press, the media became fixated on the sinister-looking Satan who looked a lot like the President.

“It was all over TV and all over the Internet and that next day, when I was sure everyone would be only talking about Jesus, they were all talking about Satan instead,” she continued. “I was saddened. It was really disappointing, because it became such a distraction and then it became ugly and people were making such nasty statements.”

She also said it was just like the Prince of Darkness to hog the spotlight. “I knew it was just like Satan the narcissist to make it all about him and create division,” the actress whose participation in the project extends from her faith, pointed out. “I am sure Satan loved being the center of attention for a day.”

To avoid controversy this time, Satan has been cut from the theatrical release. “I cast Satan out,” Downey said, noting that the character will not appear on the screen. “It absolutely gives me great pleasure to tell you that the devil is on the cutting room floor.”
