No, The Texas Ebola Case Did NOT Come From an Immigrant Crossing the Southern Border
Today, the Center for Disease Control confirmed that the very first diagnosis of Ebola has been made on American soil.
The patient had recently traveled to Texas to visit relatives when he started to experience symptoms. The patient – who did NOT cross through the southern border but flew and was screened for Ebola prior to departure according to Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, of the CDC – was admitted to an isolation room at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas and is currently undergoing treatment.
The Texas Department of State Health Services issued a statement that it was working with the CDC and was making every effort “to investigate the case and help prevent transmission of the disease.”
The hospital added that it has “implemented infection control measures to help ensure the safety of patients and staff.”
Yet, despite reassurances things were under control, conservative message boards immediately started lighting up with rants blaming Obama, liberals and the leaky southern border for bringing Ebola to America.
At Vision to America, one commenter seemed to think it was all a master plot to kill Americans:
Seems to be a new confirmed case in Dallas. Could this be how obama gets rid of conservatives?Hope this is the change you voted for? All you left wing liberal commie democrats should feel so proud that you have destroyed America. No foreign government could do it but traitors from within did. Your a special kind of stupid that will burn in a special kind of hell. Glad to know you love your children so much that you would doom them to a horrific death.[all sic]
On Above Top Secret, another conservative ranter claimed that terrorists may soon infect themselves with Ebola and come in through the unsecured southern border.
What is stopping a terrorist organization(s) from going to Africa, getting infected with E Bola, and going to the southern border and crossing along with everyone else to create a massive infection and pandemic? [all sic]
In truth, the ranters cannot not be totally blamed for the Ebola insanity. Conservative leaders like Michele Bachmann and Rep. Louie Gohmert have been preaching that Obama has been refusing to stop Ebola laced immigrants from coming over the border for months, spreading fear among the far-right that an Ebola attack at the southern border is actually likely when in fact, nothing could be further from the truth.
