19 Kids and Cancelled? Viewers Strike Back at Duggars for Their Anti-Gay Stance

A group of viewers have made it clear. They want the Duggars off the air.

A petition, launched by Jim Wissick of San Jose, California said that the popular show ’19 Kids and Counting’ should not be allowed on TLC because wrapped up in the wholesome values and family-style fun, is a whole lot of anti-gay fearmongering.

“The Duggars have been using their fame to promote discrimination, hate, and fearmongering against gays and transgendered people,” Wissick wrote in the petition to the network asking the show to be yanked. “You need to take a stand on the side of justice and cancel their show.”

While on the air, the Duggar family mostly talks about wedding, God, and modesty, off the air the Duggar clan has become increasingly vocal about their anti-gay stance.

In August, Mama Duggar joined in to squash an anti-discrimination law in Arkansas by spreading fear that recognizing the rights of transgender citizens would lead to sexual assaults.

“The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men – yes I said men – to use women’s and girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls,” the star mom advised.

Then, just last week, the Duggars made the news again after they posted a steamy pic of themselves kissing on Facebook, with a sermonette about Christian marriage.

“God designed marriage to be a loving, dynamic relationship between a husband and wife for a lifetime. God loves marriage and it is supposed to be full of love, joy, fun, and romance. Marriage is where romance belongs!,” Mama Duggar wrote, encouraging married Facebook fans to join in.

When inevitably a married same-sex couple posted a pic, however, the Duggars just kept hitting delete, sparking a controversy about their intolerant attitudes towards same-sex pairings.

TLC has not yet responded to the petition.
