Rick Santorum Thinks Separation of Church and State is a Communist Idea

The Religious Right have a problem. While they bill themselves as staunch defenders of the Constitution who wish to realize the founding fathers’ vision for a Christian America, there is the pesky problem of separation of church and state.

Fortunately for them, potential presidential candidate Rick Santorum has it all figured out.

Separation of church and state is not actually something real Americans need to be worried about at all, it seems. It is something that is only talked about by those liberal commies.

His revisionist reply came in response to a caller to his show who was prattling on about how liberals and Obama are pinkos.

“A number of the things that the far left, a.k.a. the Democrat [sic] Party, and the president is pushing for and accomplishing actually accomplishes a number of the tenets of ‘The Communist Manifesto,’ including the amnesty, the elevation of pornography, homosexuality, gay marriage, voter fraud, open borders, mass self-importation of illegal immigrants and things of that nature,” the listener said, pretty much listing every complaint the far-right has about liberals.

In response, Santorum pointed out the separation and church and state is really a communist idea too.

“The words ‘separation of church and state’ is not in the U.S. Constitution, but it was in the constitution of the former Soviet Union. That’s where it very, very comfortably sat, not in ours,” Santorum opined.

Of course, he conveniently neglected the fact that while the words do not appear in the Constitution the phrase was first used by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison and has become an important of Supreme Court rulings.

Not to mention similar phrases provide an important founding principle for many modern nations, not just Communist ones.

More of the “real” Americans talk from them. They’d sell their mothers for a vote! Desperation looks good on the GOP! Maybe they’ll get desperate enough to actually do something. These “real” Americans.
