Cenk Uygur Defends Jake Tapper: Deaths In Afghanistan Were Senseless
Since the interview with former Navy SEAL, Marcus Luttrell, Jake Tapper of CNN has been defending himself from those who criticize him for suggesting that the death of those in Afghanistan were senseless. Tapper share his thoughts on the film, Lone Survivor, which is about the operation that Luttrell was involved in. Host of The Young Turks, Cenk Uygur, defended Tapper and agreed that the deaths in that operation were senseless.
Uygur said, “There was a reason to go into Afghanistan at first but there is no reason that we should be in Afghanistan at that point.” He added, “It’s not dishonoring them. We’re criticizing the people who sent them in to die and to get killed for no reason. That’s senseless! Do you understand that point! It doesn’t mean that Marcus Luttrell did the wrong thing. It doesn’t mean his brothers in arms did the wrong thing. We’re criticizing the people who got them killed.” Uygur point out those soldiers on Luttrell’s team would have died if people listen to people like Tapper.
He asked, “What did you fight for? You fought for a democratic Afghanistan, which we’re now leaving and with an incredible corrupt government?” Uygur continued, “We drove al Qaeda out fairly quickly on and the rest was a waste.”
“Just because you’re a hero in one case, it doesn’t mean you get to be right on everything going forward and it doesn’t mean that your political opinions have more merit than anyone else’s,” said Uygur.
